Term 3 - Storage Devices

Term 3 - Storage Devices

Statement of Inquiry:

Data storage has evolved through technological advances in the medium of storage devices.

Introduction:

We use storage devices a lot. They are part of our everyday lives. We can only save files on our computer because of storage devices. Storage devices are a very essential part of the computer. There are different types of storage devices. There are storage devices which are internal and external. Internal storage devices are built in the computer for example: Hard Disk and there are external storage devices like: USB, which can be removed if needed.

Global Context:
Information Literacy:
My research skills will help in creating the booklet because since the target audience is grade 7 students, the research will have to be easy to understand for both the audience and the writer. The words that we use and the keywords that we find would need to be easy to understand. If there are words that we have to use that is not easy to understand but they are needed then I would have that in bold and write the definition of that word at the bottom of the page that the students can refer to.
Communication:
The presentation of this booklet would need to be easy to read and it needs to have a balance of images and text. I will have equal amount of pictures and text. The font will not be in a different font style. It will be Arial or Times New Roman, which is easy to read.

Task:

Creating a booklet about Storage Devices

Target Audience: Grade 7 Students

Tech Fair Project- Criteria A

Unit: Tech Fair Project

Global Context: Scientific and Technical Innovations

Statement Of Inquiry: Developments in technology could be seen as blessing or a  curse depending on the impact it has on an individual or society.

Inquiry Question: How can we use Technology to help develop our ideas to create a masterpiece for the 'Tech Fair'?
ATL: Thinking Skills and Research Skills

Group Name: Nikita Deshpande and Evita Joseph 8AA

Product: Video about Tech Fair

We are making a video about Tech Fair. In this video, we will cover the following topics:

  • History of Tech Fair
  • How it Started
  • Where it Started
  • How has it developed
  • What was the first device created
  • When and where was it Created

We aim for the video to be 5 mins long, but maybe while explaining the topics, we could take longer. But in total we aim for no more than 10 Mins.

This is the PowerPoint that explains our Project in a little more detail:

Criteria D- Evaluation

Criteria D - Evaluation

Peer Evaluation:

Reflection:

Nehal evaluated my blog. She said that she liked how my work was organised and how everything could be noticed easily. She said that it was clear to see what she was looking at. Although, she said that i could improve my blog by adding the images of my drawings onto my blog. I will add them. She mentioned that I have a long and detailed refection for all the reflections that I have given but she said that they are short and that i could improve the quantity of my reflections. She also mentioned that i have a pretty background and that it is easy to spot all my posts since they are in order. She also said that my Criteria A is very detailed and impressive. She said that it is easy to see the development on my design. She said that it is easy to see the progress because I labeled my posts before actually writing anything. I am happy with her reflection because she is precise and she has given me many ways to improve.

Reflection:

My design is acceptable. I stared planning this design on a piece of paper. I created 2 drawings and I chose the 1st design because it met all the specifications I have planned. I decided on the shapes to use for my design, I chose a tube and a box. I did use a box and a tube for the design. I used the box for the frame. I made the box thin by length and width and then I copy and pasted the new box design so I could get the other frame. I used the tube for the stands of the glasses. I took a tube and I straightened it to make it longer. After I got the size that I wanted, I copy pasted this to get the same design for the other frame. Then I placed all the different parts together and grouped them, which explains why I have only the colour red for the whole design. I also did a primary and secondary research. In the Primary research, I asked students from my class and took a vote. I asked 15 people out of whom 11 people said that the glasses are a good idea and they would buy my product. Therefore I decided to make these glasses.  Then I research different types of glasses made on Tinker CAD and I saw a design that I really liked so I decided to make my glasses based on that.  My secondary research included the websites I saw the glasses on. Then I made the glasses and I had my peer, Nehal to evaluate my product. If I had to make these glasses again, I would use different colours and not focus much on grouping the whole piece together. That is how I made my TinkerCAD Glasses.
These are the glasses that I was inspired by.

Criteria C- Evaluating the Solution

Final Design

Reflection:

I like my model. Because of time, I could not add the buttons as I was supposed to but i am happy with my creation. I will add the buttons as soon as possible. I will try to add the buttons small. It took time because the frame of the glasses are so small therefore it took extra time to get the placing of the buttons correct. I enjoyed making this. It was a challenge. I did follow the design specification table. It was easy to create the frame but it was hard to group all the pieces together. It was also hard because the glasses had to symmetric so they had to be the exact same size so they look even. The frame of the  glasses also had to be the same size so they looked like real glasses. I went on to google and checked ideas for TinkerCAD. There I saw these glasses. That interested me. I went home and I did research then then came to a conclusion to make these glasses. If we make these again, i will see others ideas and then make something better. But overall, I enjoyed making it. It was very exciting and challenging.

Criterion B- Developing ideas

Criteria B- Developing Ideas

Design Specification:

This is my design specification. It will be aimed for students above the age of 10. It is safe to use as there are not many safety factors to worry about. Only thing is that it needs to be kept away from water. I have the software TinkerCAD to create these glasses. This will not have any environmental impacts as these glasses are aimed to humans.

Design 1: 8/8 spec meet

Design 2 : 6/8  spec meet

In the end of all the research and collection of data, I have decided to do design 1 because it meets all the needs and it relates well to my design specification. This design has all the sizes i need and it matches well to my design specification. Design 2 could not match my design specification as it was glowing which could damage the pupil's eyes. Therefore i have decided to do my design 1.
